This is a photo that was taken in 2003 when Sue and I were in good health and were enjoying a first class holiday fortnight in Croatia. We were just a walk away from the town centre, which can be seen on the postcard. I am off on a different break tomorrow, I am going to the Springbok Convalescent Home down south. I hope to be able to send you some pics, and maybe tell you about our Croatian holidays,

It certainly is Geoff, it was originally set up by Havelock Ellis, chairman of the NUS.He persuaded a leading shipowner to help finance it.The first home was in Limpsfield and was adequate for the numbers that used it. During WW11 the need for a larger place arose and the people of South Africa had a public subscription which raised about half a million pounds then which would amount to about 16 million pound at todays prices. The NUS where able to purchase an estate they which called Springbok
in thanks for the wonderful gesture of the South African people. I shall give you more info when I am down there, until then,
Adios Amigos,
BrianD

Whilst looking for the ships of WW1, the wooden ships seem to have disappeared by 1923 now i think i have the answer to that problem.

Be a boring job pulling out all those nails, even worse would be looking for them after the fire.

They do that just ti pee you off Tom th_lmao1-vi.gif
Tonnage gives it away 522 tons.
some ones made a balls up when listing it with those names.
They are built very similar to the CHANT type of ships, made from flat steel sheets and a flat bottom, very little preforming of the sheets for quick of building. rolled on wet grass so they say.
Everards bought a lot of chant type after the war.
