Welcome to the Home Lilacman, compact CV you have there, may have been for a short time but you sound as though you had a good time.
It's the same for all members, I spent my whole working life at sea but that means nothing, as far as I am concerned the halcyon days were the early days as a seaman in the British MN. It says a lot for the service that all ex-Merch guys revel in the memories of the days when Britain was a sea power and had the largest Merchant fleet the world has ever seen, now they only know cruise-boats ... Very sad for the youth of Britain and the world.
Enjoy your visits and give us a few of your sea stories.

Did you come across another steward by the name of Vernon Macdonald by any chance as I know him from another site. Not to sure what ships he was on but he was with UCL about that time. Les

G'day lilacman,
My first ship was a Castle boat. Tintagel Castle only a small cargo boat. First couple of trips were round Africa as you would expect on a Castle boat but on the third trip when we left Mombasa we went across to the Indian coast, which I was told was a break from tradition.

Well Vernon it is like this. A lot of us are used to using other names especially when we had jumped ship and now you have the experience of recalling all your different names. Golden rule though. Never change your first name. Never know who you will bump into and can always explain away a different surname but everyone gets suss of you if you answer to a different first name.

Vernon, Les Geoff and afew more, this sounds like an echo of another site. Me,
Pretoria Castle, Windsor castle, Pretoria again, Rhodesia Castle, Windsor again, Paparoa N.Z.S.C. British Hawthorn, Uraguay Star,Channel Island Ferry. Now restricted to blood status on cruise ships.
