Just heard on an Australian radio station that Christmas Day will not be a Public Holiday in Victoria.
What next?? :sleigh:

This might clear it up M'lord. Think that they are on about it falling on a Sunday so the public holiday will be moved to a week day to compensate those who work five day weeks. Happens all the time here where a gazzeted holiday falling on a weekend is then taken on the first available day in the week. Celebrations still happen on said day just that we end up with two public holidays instead of just one. Could be wrong but doubt it LOL

Hi les,
You could well be right, Victoria has a labour parliament so I guess the workers are going to get an extra long weekend holiday??

If that's what you think it may entail I don't see why it can't be left alone, usually when a holiday lands on a weekend the immediate Monday becomes the holiday is it not the same in oz ?

Would be Tomarse if the next day was not also a public holiday. Hence there will be three days public holidays instead of two. From memory when I was working shift work we got thirteen public holidays per year plus five weeks annual leave. Thirteen weeks long service after ten years service that increased every year after. Hence when I got out ended up with six months leave pay. So not much really but someone had to do it. Used to accrue RDO days (one every four weeks) especially if one was rostered of on a public holiday as that was also accrued because of one being rostered off. Up until the idiots changed the rosters I used to get ten weeks annual leave a year with a bit of fiddling with how I took them. Yep two lots of five weeks a year.

Sounds like our local uncle Tasman Les (Paper mills)
They had all sorts of benefits going for them until it changed ownership, then the new company said feck you and your strikes and removed two of the three paper machines making a load of men redundant. but it was their own fault they just got to greedy. They ended up providing gear for the whole of NZ, from clothing to tools etc, they got 1+1/3 or 1+1/2 or even double time for doing their normal jobs on week days, free meals free clothing every 6 months from boots upwards the only thing the Co didnt supply was their daks and all top quality gear i might add. If you went to the stores you didnt see the storemen you just picked it off the shelves, want a drill bit you took a packet of them. wanted safety gear you took it by the box full. th_lmao1-vi.gif th_lmao1-vi.gif th_lmao1-vi.gif th_lmao1-vi.gif

I see the labour party in Victoria has had second thoughts and is now considering reverting things back again to make Xmas day a public holiday again.
