Caerleon was one of only three permanent fortresses in Roman Britain
known as Isca to the Romans, the fortress itself was a playing-card shape, covering 50 acres of land in which the Museum now lies.
Just a few minutes walk from the galleries takes you to the most complete Amphitheatre in Britain, beautifully presented Fortress Baths, and the only remains of a Roman Legionary Barracks on view anywhere in Europe.
The eye-catching excavations include an open-air swimming pool (natatio) and cold bath suite (frigidarium), which represent only a portion of the vast original structure

15) They are now 1000s al over the world, built to the same style and function.
16) The link to the romans is Aberthaw ------. which has the same qualities as what the romans used.
17) Was the world's first open ocean -------- and still is, although the Cordouan ------- preceded it as the first offshore

Yes sir Reg. The Eddystone lighthouse. and the connection is they reportedly used the lime from Aberthaw to make the mortar for the Smeaton lighthouse, as like the Roman cement it will set even whilst underwater.
as a kid growing up i spent most of my time walking and playing around Aberthaw and the old lime works was my castle.
