Yes Sir reg he was buried at sea at his families request **? and if my memory serves me right it was somewhere off the Grand Banks. The story i was told is that radio medical distress call was put out for a doctor and a Polish ship answered the call, but it appeared that the sea was a bit rough and the doctor refused to transfer between ships in a life boat. So a medical orderly did the transfer instead of the doctor, his diagnosis was a ruptured appendicitis. telling the captain to make for port asap. Jeff either died 24 hours later or 24 hours before reaching port. The captain of the MV Iron Ore was servery criticized by the inquest for putting his ship and crew in danger by taking a short cut across the grand banks, but from what i understood the whole crew were in favor of this action. I was on the next trip and had the pleasure of presenting the red duster flown at his burial to his mother as his father died not long after Jeff.

** ? i was always told that if you died at sea and your family requested that you be brought home , then the shipping co classed you as cargo and were liable for all storage and transfer fees etc incurred. Ive never been able to find out the truth of whether this is true or not. Can anybody throw some light on this subject !!!!!!
RIP Jeff.

Another BIG thank you Sir Reg.
A good read in that link , but it still didnt answer the question, bearing in mind how tight some of the shipping companies were i can see them charging to return a body back to the UK.
