I think this an Irish poem, maybe around the 1850/ 1880's . Could be a woman in AUSTRALIA,Maybe with the name O'Dwyer, or Dwyer.Could have arrived in Australia on the boat "Pemberton" and maybe one of the famine girls from Ireland?

God Grant that I may see the joke of things;
The little things that bother now and then.
God grant my sense of humour may be strong
To weep a bit - and yet to smile again.
And may there be a chuckle with each tear
To every grief God grant a funny half.
And when I'm to be judged, perhaps he'll say
"Are you the soul who always tried to laugh"?
And when I nod and answer, "yes, I am,
I tried to fight my troubles with a grin."
Perhaps he'll smile and say "that was a task"
"So, here is the gate of Heaven - enter in."
Reg.

I have been trying to trace the author of this poem ever since doing some genealogy TonyDW, a few years ago. It is not related to Tony, but seems to have something to do with an iRISH GIRL sent to Australia ? I shall pin it down one day!!
REg.

What a timely poem to read. it has been rather stressful the past couple of weeks and I've been actively looking for things to help me smile, places were grins could be found, and smiling at times even when I've wanted to cry.

namaste Reg Thank you
