In our alphabet, some letters signify more than one sound. Some sounds are signified by more than one letter why. When the Romans invaded the British Isles, they imposed Latin on the locals. Latin has only 26 letters. Not enough to handle the 44 sounds in their spoken tongues. So the locals simply wove Latin into their own language. Not an ideal wedding of words, but it served. Still does.

it doesn't seem to be working to well these days reg. english is being rapidly destroyed here in britain. people who suddenlt think they know better have decided that the letter X should sound like a K when within a word, eg SIKTH. now i move to the TH, TH is another sound that is widely and extensively corrupted. once it was usually found in the london are where this sound was was prolific amongst the poor educated class changing the sound to F and V. other places this was found was within people that simply were classed as thick and difficult to educate and childlike people with real learning difficulties.

since the influx of foreigners into the UK this has become viral and included another new sound for the TH sound which id D as in dis an dat (this and that). these days i here more and more well educated people using this appalling viral speech.
not only do we have GH and PH to produce the F sound but the TH sound now producing F, V and D plus X making K sound. really , really makes my blood boil :rules:

muvver and bruvver, fink free, dis , dat, firty, fick, fought etc, etc, ect..

not only is our way of life being quiclkly eroded with migrants but our language too

Same as place names seem to be changing. Always thought that Chile was pronounced as is but now the modern way is to call it Chilay for some fecking reason. My favourite one is the place called Phuket in Indonesia where the modern way for travel agents is to call it Pukett for me is has always had the connotations of a good place to get ones leg over. That is only two place names and bet my left knacker that there are plenty more.

I can see that you have not heard that old calypso song about never making a good looking woman your wife. Just think of the savings on bra's as they are able to tuck them under the belt of their strides. At least my ex's are still getting around on two legs unlike another member on site who has to keep up the speed to catch his as they have four legs. Think we are getting a bit of topic on this posting LOL.

As ive said before your only jealous Les, At least i can have a new girlfriend every year so that they never look old. And i can have a few good roasts off the old ones, see nothink wasted.
As for the old songs i all ways thought the the song Rhinestone cowboy was always a 9 stone cowboy.
As for the english language (spell checker), Most of you know im dyslexic and at school when learning to write the ABC i always wrote Ay, Be. Ce, De, Ee, eF, Ge, aH, I, Ja, Ka, el, eM, N, O, Pe, Qu, aR, eS, Te, U, Ve, dW, eX, Y, Zed . Its no wonder that i always got a low marks for english. And no teacher ever thought to help me out. poop.gif

Just a quick question, The letter( H) I was taught it was ( ach ) at school not as it is now taught at schools( Hach) which sounds very uncouth, uneducated and working class, not that there is anything wrong with working class, just ask Le Les a better man you could not meet.

If you go to South Wales you will find no need for the letter H as we dont use them, IE Handbag is a ambag and Hammer is ammer

Hi Taffy2
Whether you like it or not Taffy2, foreign expressions represent an integral part of the English language (and of many other languages, too). Knowing the meaning and usage of the most used ones is very important. First of all because it will enable you to understand pieces of text that include them. Secondly, because you might also need to use those expressions on particular situations (avoid using them just to sound smart though). Below you will find one foreign expressions commonly used in English.
De Facto....De facto is a Latin expression that means “actual” (if used as an adjective) or “in practice” (if used as an adverb). In legal terms, de facto is commonly used in contrast to de jure, which means “by law.” Something, therefore, can emerge either de facto (by practice) or de jure (by law). As for "aitch, kyoo and dbleyoo" We leave this for the for the Welsh High Courts to decipher
