Hi Taffy 2.
I have noted that John Anderson signed his name "J Andersonyon"
I think Yon is another way to spell John, and it looks as if he signed his name using surname first ??

Our John is being a right pain in the frame, seems that he just doesn't want to be found. And thats very observant of you Reg to notice that "Jon" on the end
I traced out the signature and couldn't get the middle letters of Anderson and thats the reason why.
Arr well back to the drawing board i suppose. th_lmao1-vi.gif :rules:

Hi Taffy a little info on Prorto
"Portugal
The trading agreement between Oliver Cromwell and the King of Portugal in 1654, for instance, provided ‘that there shall be a place in Lisbon for the English to bury their dead’, though no registers survive from that period. The present cemetery, a joint British-Dutch project, was not opened until 1717. There is a gap in its registers in the 1750s and no record of the burial of the 78 British people who died in the great earthquake of 1755. In the 18th century many people went to Lisbon for medical reasons and so many burials and inscriptions relate to people not connected with the trading factory.
A cemetery was also opened at Oporto in 1717, where previously burials had taken place in a piece of land set aside for ‘Heretics and Infidels’ in Vila Nova da Gaio on the other side of the river Douro. During the worst times of the Inquisition non-Catholics were buried secretly, at low tide, on the river bank, when no service was taken and no record kept. That must often have been the case in other countries.
I have been through records of British burial's in Oporto, but no Anderson's recorded.
Reg

Hi Reg, What do the australian census records show regarding place of birth.? As ive lost another Anderson and yes it a @#$#@ John. LOL only this time he has 3 christian names. Ive lost him after the 1881 Bath, Somerset, uk census, but found one with the same 3 names in brisbane 1913. His names are John William Henry Anderson, born 1861 in Bath and i found the same named person in Oxley. Brisbane voting lists 1913. Roughly the same age -1 year and the same trade wood carver/chippy.

Thank you Sir Reg.
Been tracking down our other John (Houdini) Anderson born portugal. found him in the 1841 census Shaldon , Devon as a male servant aged 35. He is in the household of Rev John Wrey and Ann Burnett nee Yeomans, born circa 1796 in Bloomsbury London, also in the house is a Anna Yeomans aged 70 Not born in this county as is John. Anna Yeomans dies in 1847 and then from then on John Anderson remains with his family in Dawlish.Ann Burnett is the only Daughter of the Rev Thomas Yeomans and heiress to his estate. I just have a feeling that possibly that they were in Portugal at some time with the Yeomans family. (Live in hope die in dispare)
JWH anderson was in 1913 voting lists No 283, Spring St, Oxley, south Brisbane, carpenter. also at the same address is a Charlotte Edwina Anderson, house duties (His wife??) she dies in 1916 fathers name Henry Beech, mother Charlotte Hill. Reg Number
B022962 page 37.
In 1919 JWHA is in Croftbank, Edmonstone St same area.
If i could just find out if JWHA was born in Bath, Somerset in 1861. That would prove i was on the right track.

I am still trying to find a record of JWHA birth so far no progress, it will be some where but he is making it hard to locate. I did have all the info you gave me but as like you could not find his birth place.

Found our JWH Anderson was born in Aussie, so he's not one of ours
Been perusing that list of Yeomans and nothing is jumping out at me, found that some of the Wrey family that he worked for as a servant were in Portugal, but a zero so far.

SIR Reg, do you have any access to MN seaman's records? Tried NA, but they have sold the rights to Findmypast and i cant get in there. (Bloody cheek really they are public records and you cant access them without paying a commercial fee to a private company for an excessive fee.)
Im looking for a James Clifford Jones, Dis no R78938 , Born 1909 Cardiff . Ive found him in Series BT 349, 348. and Bt 112, bt114 but as i say ive no access to the fills.
